What you can expect
Explore the breathtakingly beautiful volcanic fields of Tongariro National Park with this half day Volcanic Explorer tour. Taking you on a 4-hour hike through the Tongariro National Park, you'll be led by an experienced guide and taught about the region while you explore it.
Depending on which trail is taken, you'll be treated a vast range of natural landscapes. With breathtaking incredible views, such as Taranaki Falls, Lake Rotopounamu, Soda Springs, Whakapapanui River and Silica Rapids. If the landscapes look slightly familiar as you start exploring then you'll be pleased to know the National Park was a popular filming site for the Lord of the Rings trilogies. Your guide will not only walk you through but will also talk you through the Tongariro and New Zealand history including recent and past eruptions, the traditional regional legends and of course the Lord of the Rings filming sites.
Tours depart at various times throughout the year depending on the season (see More Info section) and include return transfers from the Adrift Tongariro Base at the National Park Village. All hikers are advised to bring at least 1 to 2 litres of water, personal medications and appropriate clothing and footwear.

- You will have a $40 credit for equipment hire, any further equipment can be hired at an additional cost
- Hotel and city transfers may be available from Whakapapa Village, Turangi, Ohakune and Taupo for an additional costing. You are able to contact the supplier directly to discuss (details on the voucher)
- Enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Tongariro National Park
- The Professional and experienced guide will offer education and local knowledge of the geology, volcanology, flora, fauna and New Zealand cultural history
- If weather and group conditions permit, walk up to Soda Springs on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing track. There are a selection of alternate walking tracks which can be suited to most fitness levels
- If anyone in the group is unable able to walk 4 hours on the Tongariro Crossing Track, the group can choose the option of driving to view points which require less physicality
- Visit recognisable Lord of the Rings filming sites included and not included in the trilogy
- Witness scenes like Meads Wall, Taranaki Falls, Lake Rotopounamu, Soda Springs, Pukeonake, Whakapapanui River, Tawhai falls, Silica Rapids. This, of course, is dependant on the track the group followed

- Summer morning departure will be approximately 8:00am and afternoon tour pick up being around 1:30pm
- Winter morning departure will be approximately 7:00am and afternoon tour pick up being around 1:30pm
