Dunk Island, a haven for nature enthusiasts, is predominantly a national park adorned with lush walking trails and picturesque beaches. To embark on an adventure, head left from the jetty, tracing the shoreline until you spot signs for Muggy Muggy Beach and Mount Kootaloo. The ambitious can tackle Mount Kootaloo—a strenuous 7km round-trip hike through ancient forests, passing a WWII radar station en route to the island's apex, rewarding you with breathtaking views of the surrounding islands.
For a gentler exploration, opt for the circuit track, a 3-4 hour trek through Palm Valley and Coconut Beach after descending Mount Kootaloo. Pallon Beach offers an excellent, easier walk leading to an old farm with a lookout, ultimately reaching Coconut Beach.
Alternatively, if the sea beckons, return to Muggy Muggy Beach for a swim and snorkeling. And don't forget, the beach near the jetty is an ideal spot for a seaside escape, regardless of the tide.
