Burleigh Heads Beach

What you can expect

Perhaps the Gold Coast's best all-round beach, Burleigh Heads Beach features an idyllic balance between quality waves, family facilities and local greenery. The beach is widely renowned as one of Australia's premier surfing beaches, featuring an all-sand bottom and long right handed breaks - so much so that it's the site of numerous annual surfing carnivals, notably the Quicksilver Pro that has seen some of the world's biggest names compete. Non-surfers also have plenty to benefit from with a day at Burleigh Beach, as its sheltered nature is conducive to some great, calm swimming conditions on windier days that can make other Gold Coast beaches less enjoyable. While the sanded area at Burleigh isn't as wide as some other beaches, it's exceptionally clean and kept in great condition by the locals, as is the neighbouring parkland. The beach's location offers great views up to Surfers Paradise, while sitting in a position that's both accessible from the northern and southern ends of the Gold Coast and offers plenty of quality dining and shopping opportunities just across the road. The parkland at Burleigh Beach comes equipped with playground equipment to keep children entertained, while its amenity blocks are modern and typically kept impressively clean. The other aspect that sets Burleigh aside from other beaches on the Gold Coast is its lovely headland area that comes equipped with a well-constructed walking track that winds all the way around to neighbouring Tallebudgeera on the opposite side. The beach is patrolled, and there is also a surf club at both ends that serve refreshments. If you're a first-time visitor to the Gold Coast that's having trouble picking which beach to visit first, Burleigh Heads Beach is the most likely to appeal to all tastes; it's neither as crowded or commercialised as many other beaches along the coast.
